Volume 3 "From Your Mountain Retreat Destination"

Greeting Friends & Visitors,

That you’ve wound your way to this point, the Heritage Cove Cabins website, suggests that either you’ve stayed at the cabins previously or are considering a visit sometime in the future. I’d like to speak first to those of you whose paths have crossed mine sometime over the last dozen years or so while visiting the cabins in Cruso, NC. Whether you’ve known it or not, the property on which Heritage Cove was built, the cabins and the business, have been for sale since mid-2005. I finally found a buyer in the Fall of 2006 and officially turned stewardship of the land over to the new owner’s in early November. While it had been my sincerest desire to find folks that would continue to offer the cabins to the traveling public, as a respite from the daily toils of their varied lives, it hasn’t worked out thataway. The new owners plan to use the property exclusively for themselves, their families and friends. While disappointed, simple reflection on what Heritage Cove has meant to so many of you over the past decade gives me great pride and a sense of accomplishment. The friends I’ve made, the stories and experiences that have grown out of your visits to the cabins, your words of encouragement all contribute to what Heritage Cove has meant to me. And, I know each of you will carry away fond memories of your time there. So, while this moving forward may be somewhat bittersweet for all of us, I personally am looking forward to life’s next challenges and experiences. It would be great to hear from any and all of you. My new email is soulshine65@gmail.com and I can always be reached by phone at (828)226-3826. Please do stay in touch.

Now, for those of you looking for suggestions for places to stay here in the mountains, I’ve got several recommendations:

The first of course is the Pisgah Inn (www.pisgahinn.com), on the Blue Ridge Parkway at milepost 408.6. They can be reached by phone at (828)235-8228. As many of you know, I’ve helped run the lodge at Pisgah for many years and plan to work there for a couple more seasons. The Inn is open from approximately April 1st through the end of October. Simple guest rooms, best views in the mountains, and a wonderful restaurant combine to make this a delightful getaway.

If you’re specifically looking for cabins, you might try Mountain Springs Cabins & Chalets (www.mtnsprings.com) in Candler, NC. Their phone number is (828)665-1004. The owner, Kate, does a wonderful job and these comfortable and cozy cabins just might be what you’re looking for. Over the years, we’ve swapped lots of business and considered the two properties to be comparable in many ways. Mountain Springs is open year round.

Another cabin resort that might interest you is Rivermont (www.rivermont.com) owned and operated by the Schlapkohl’s. Located on Hwy. 215, near Lake Logan in Haywood County, these accommodations are also considered comparable to what I was offering at Heritage Cove. The cabins at Rivermont are also available all year long.

Well folks, I just want to reiterate one last time how wonderful it’s been to be your mountain host over the years. I greatly appreciate all of your support and encouragement as I strived to offer you unique and memorable stays at Heritage Cove. And, I’m humbled at the confidence and trust that each of you exhibited in choosing the cabins time and time again for your family vacations and special getaways. Thank you all, please stay in touch, and may the road we all travel from here forward be gentle, kind, forgiving and filled with joy, beauty & wonderment.

Kindest Regards,

Charlie Brooks
